National Year of Reading
Summer reading challenge
This summer, don't just sit there……get reading!
Go for gold at your local library with Team Read. While the best of Britain's athletes are winning medals at the Beijing Olympics, you can be a member of Team Read and try an Olympian Reading Challenge! Friendly, knowledgeable Team Coaches in each library will help you to find books that suit you.
Read 6 books between Saturday 4th July and Saturday 6th September and get lots of fun, free stuff. Collect stickers every time you read a book and check your progress using the special Team Read poster. Keep going with the challenge and you can collect sporty toys and prizes. There's a medal and a certificate for those who finish the challenge and become official Team Readers. The challenge is for 4-11 year olds but younger brothers and sisters can join in too and earn special Bookstart certificates by sharing stories with grown-ups. Join in the fun and take a challenge that will stretch you to the limits. All libraries will have drop-in activity tables with games, quizzes and treasure hunts to keep you busy throughout the school holidays.
There's a web site too! Log on to Team Read|
to play games, try book quizzes and find out more about your favourite authors.
Team Readers can join in special activity workshops, provided by professionally qualified staff from the Discover (Libraries, Museums and Arts) team and find out more about sports and the Olympics, ancient and modern. Some sessions are for 5-8 year olds whilst others are more suitable for older children aged 7-11 years.
