Readers' groups

Introduction

Members of King Cross Library Readers' GroupCurrently we have twenty Readers' Groups for adults meeting in Calderdale Libraries. Each group meets monthly when we air and share our views about the book of the month.

Contemporary novels form the basis of our reading, but we have discussed a few narrative non-fiction titles, and have even tried 'mystery parcels' where each group member contributes a well-loved read of their own.

Over a glass of wine and nibbles in the evening and a more refined refreshment of tea and cake in the afternoon or morning, Readers groups and Bookchat groups share their likes and dislikes as well as something of themselves. Browse through their pages for a collection of book reviews -

In addition to these we also support, with books and information, a number of groups who meet in places other than libraries - Organic Café Readers Group, Workplace Groups and Groups in readers homes - including the 646 Book Club|External link.

We've had a good response from Library members and non-members alike, as well as from library staff (many of whom are voracious readers!). But we are always open to new members, so come and join us. We'd love to welcome you. If you are just getting into reading or don't have much confidence but would like to try something new, why not try coming to one of our Bookchat groups.

If you are visually impaired and would like to be part of a readers group we can arrange for you to have access to Large Print / Books on CD / Tape.

If you are hearing impaired and are interested in being part of a readers group / bookchat group, let us know and we will try and set one up or make suitable arrangements.

Want to join? For details of meetings close to you, see diary and contacts .
