Special collections

• Bretton’s Heraldry Collection
• The Library has Phyllis Bentley’s personal collection of books and copies of her works. The West Yorkshire Archive Service, Calderdale, houses her papers, diaries, correspondence and notebooks, on behalf of the Reference Library. Phyllis Bentley’s desk and chair are also in the care of the Central Library, Halifax.
• Edward’s Bindings Collection: a collection of rare bindings (housed by West Yorkshire Archives Service).
• Milner Collection: consists of pocket-sized editions of classics published by William Milner in Halifax and sold at low prices within the reach of the working classes.
