Free reservations confirmed
Calderdale libraries introduced free reservations last August as a trial. There has been no charge for requesting books, Talking Books, CDs and DVDs listed on the Library catalogue. (Some new DVDs and Reference Library books cannot be requested).
The thinking behind the introduction of free reservations was to generally encourage borrowing, and to make it easier for borrowers to easily obtain the items they want. It also makes the service more equal in that borrowers whose local library has less stock no longer have to pay to obtain titles that might not otherwise be available.
The introduction of free reservations was an instant success, leading to an immediate and sustained large increase in the number of reservations taken.
Following this success, the trial period was extended, and has now been made permanent.
During the National Year of Reading|
it will be easier than ever for everyone to borrow the books that they want to read.
