First World War centenary
In 2014, the world is commemorating the outbreak of the First World War: organisations and individuals are getting involved to show their appreciation for the men and women who played their part.

A new exhibition commemorating the region’s First World War experiences and a series of events at Bankfield Museum, Halifax. See Calderdale Museums: For King and Country;
Remembering the First World War
A series of talks, displays and a creative remembrance project addressing various aspects of the war and life in the locality at the time. See Remembering the First World War.
- Halifax Great War Heritage Society| are researching the everyday stories of our area during the Great War; and
- The Royal British Legion is running a Centenary Poppy Growing Campaign|, with the aim of covering the UK with poppies in commemoration of all those who lost their lives.
