Date:
11 September 2008 - 14 September 2008
Event:
Heritage open days
Every year in September, thousands of buildings of all ages, styles and functions open their doors free of charge. Many of these places are normally closed to the public, while others usually charge for admission.
- All Soul's Church , Haley Hill, Halifax
Commissioned by a Halifax manufacturer, the architect Sir George Gilbert Scott thought it his best church although he lamented it was not grander still - judge for yourself. - Clay House , West Vale, Halifax
Standing on a site which has been occupied since the 13th Century the house presents a fine example of the vernacular architecture of the 17th Century, set in a beautiful rural park in the village of West Vale at the start of the Calderdale Way footpath, 2½ miles from the centre of Halifax.
The house will be open Sunday 14th September from 12 noon to 5.00 pm. - Halifax Town Hall , Crossley Street, Halifax
A Grade II* listed building designed by Sir Charles Barry, opened in 1863. 'North Italian Cinquecento' style, featuring a central hall and glazed roof. Visitors will be able to view the recently restored and reinstalled Victorian statues which have not been on display for over 50 years. Civic Reglia on display in Mayor's Parlour.
Tours:
Saturday 13th September 11.00 am and 2.00 pm (building open 10.00 am - 4.00 pm)
Sunday 14th September 12.30 pm and 2.30 pm (building open 12 noon - 4.00 pm). - Hebden Bridge Picture House
