Private housing

Advice and guidance for both landlords and tenants as to their rights and responsibilities. Information is also provided on the Council's landlord accreditation scheme.

Low cost home ownership

As a result of the Government's HomeBuy initiative, there are several ways people on low incomes can buy their own home, including shared ownership schemes.

Private landlords

Landlords have a right to receive rent when it is due and decide the conditions of a tenancy. They have a responsibility to deliver a decent standard of safety and repair, and can register with the Council to show their commitment to fairness and safety.

Private tenants

Tenants have a right to live in a habitable property and expect professional management of that property. They also have a responsibility to pay their rent on time and notify their landlord of repairs.
