Core strategy
The Core Strategy sets out the overall planning vision and framework for the district from 2011 to 2026 and beyond.
The Core Strategy plays a key part in the delivery of Calderdale's Sustainable Community Strategy by delivering all the parts that relate to spatial planning.
Spatial planning is about how land is used. It also looks at how places work, how people get around, the services available to them and the communities they are part of.
The Core Strategy includes an outline for delivering strategic development needs for Calderdale's future, including housing, employment, leisure and retail. All other Development Plan Documents must conform to the Core Strategy and the Core Strategy must conform to the Regional Spatial Strategy for Yorkshire & the Humber May 2008|
The Core Strategy will include:
- a spatial vision;
- core policies for development and waste disposal;
- strategic site allocations;
- a review of the Green Belt;
- and an implementation framework.
The Council started work on the Core Strategy in early 2008 and has now published the following consultation documents as part of its continuing early community engagement.
This is the first opportunity to have your say on the big issues facing the district and the options that may exist for the distribution of future development across the area.
Comments are invited on the above documents and we would be pleased to receive them. Comments can be made on-line using Local Development Framework consultations|

The period of engagement has been extended to take account of requests from the public. This will now run from Monday 17th November 2008 to 5.00pm Friday 30th January 2009.
