Garden wise
Burglary of garden sheds and theft of garden equipment is one of the fastest growing crimes in the country. Your garden furniture and tools are very saleable items so you must make it as difficult as possible for any would be thief to get to your property.
- Good locks should be fitted to shed doors and windows, always use them
- Always post code every item of property
- Remember to lock all doors and windows when out in the garden, do not make it easy for sneak-in thieves
- Detail any particular identification marks on your property including scratch marks
- Equipment should never be left unattended
- Neighbourhood Watch|
would be very beneficial, why not join one in your area or set one up if one does not already exist - Walls, fences and gates should always be kept in good condition
- Illuminate dark areas of your garden where possible
- Screens for thieves to work behind should be avoided, keep hedges, shrubs and large plants cut back
- Expensive or unusual items or equipment or garden ornaments should be photographed
