Housing advice

Getting people housed

Although the Council no longer owns any houses, it does have a housing register, and nomination rights to the properties owned by Pennine Housing and other housing associations operating in Calderdale. The Council has an allocation summary, that sets out how people can join the register and how applicants will be prioritised for nomination:

Pennine Housing 2000 manages the Housing Register on behalf of the Council. Housing application forms and information about Pennine Housing and Housing Association properties are available from the Housing Advice Centre, Pennine Housing Property Shop and any Pennine Housing District Office.

The Council ensures that Pennine Housing and Housing Associations allocate their homes fairly, and regularly monitors the lettings made.

Information about the Calderdale Housing Allocation scheme can be obtained by contacting the Housing Advice Centre or the Housing Strategy and Partnerships Officer.

Proposed changes to the allocation scheme

In June 2007 Pennine Housing 2000 and some of the Housing Associations operating in Calderdale will change the way that they allocate their homes and a new system known as Choice Based Letting will be introduced.
