Housing advice
Energy efficiency and conservation
The Housing Energy Action Team provides impartial advice and assistance to help people reduce their fuel bills, improve the living conditions in their homes and make their homes more energy efficient and better for the environment.
The services provided by the Housing Energy Action Team include:
- help and advice on accessing free local or national schemes for insulation and heating works
- help and advice on accessing grants for installing solar energy systems for generating electricity and hot water
- home energy surveys to produce a 'personal' energy report on people's homes
- advice on renewable energy
- talks to community groups on how to save energy.
Affordable warmth
The Affordable Warmth Strategy for Calderdale aims to reduce fuel poverty and ensure that all homes in the area are able to enjoy Affordable Warmth. Implementation of the strategy is now being driven by a steering group made up of representatives from the local authority, the health sector, Pennine 2000 and voluntary organisations.
Affordable Warmth is the ability to heat your home to an adequate level for household comfort and health, without spending more than 10 per cent of the household income. Cold homes, high healthcare costs, cold related illnesses, excess winter deaths, fuel debts and housing in poor repair, are the visible signs of fuel poverty.
