Waste and recycling

Corporate recycling scheme

The Sustainable Development team has implemented a pilot recycling scheme in several of the Council buildings in order to give staff the opportunity to reduce the amount of office waste being sent to landfill. We currently recycle glass, food / drink cans, plastic bottles, all forms of paper, cardboard and batteries in the following buildings:

Discussions are taking place with the Disposal Services Agency (DSA), a partner of the Office of Government Commerce (OGC), to recycle larger items such as furniture, electrical equipment, lighting fittings lamps etc.

Food waste

A pilot will be running very shortly with a local recycler to take cardboard and food waste from the Halifax Borough Market and again it is anticipated to roll this out to other markets, schools and other buildings with such waste.
