Highway maintenance
Highway obstructions and enforcement
Officers monitor and offer advice on working in the highway and the permissions required to protect contactors and members of the public whilst on the highway network. They ensure that business and individuals comply with legal obligations and work safely and efficiently to minimise disruption.
The Road and Street Works Team work closely with the utility companies (such as Yorkshire Water, Transco, and Yorkshire Electricity), the Police and the bus companies to ensure that works are carried out efficiently and with the minimum amount of disruption and that damaged apparatus is repaired as quickly as possible.
If you have an enquiry regarding an obstruction or encroachment of the highway please contact Highways .
Overhanging vegetation
An obstruction of the highway can take many forms but one we come across more often is overhanging vegetation. Overhanging vegetation is where plants, bushes or trees from land adjacent to the highway grows out onto or over the highway and obstructs sight lines or restricts movement to both pedestrians and motorists. If you have any concerns about overhanging vegetation please contact Highways .
