Introduction

Conservation and the Built Environment Team

We carry out a range of services, which address the physical improvement of the district, the ‘place agenda’. This includes:

  • advice on the availability of land and safeguarding land for economic development,
  • undertaking projects to achieve new commercial or business related development,
  • carrying out environmental improvement programmes,
  • providing a ‘conservation’ service for the district involving advice on listed buildings and Conservation Areas,
  • supporting the Halifax Renaissance programme, which has produced an exciting 25 year vision for the future of the town centre.

Business Support Team (Growing Calderdale)

The focus of the work is to evidence and investigate the real needs and demands of local businesses, to understand the make up of the economy and growth and declining sectors to aid future planning. This will involve identifying, developing and protecting, land and property appropriate for business development.

To encourage a culture of enterprise and world class economic growth which is adapting to the needs of Urban and Rural communities.

Workwise creates employment opportunities for local people who are in receipt of benefits and seeking employment. To ease and facilitate individual transitions to enable the maximisation of income through a mix of ‘in-work’ benefits and wages, the Employment Support team will assist in the development of suitable learning packages and progressional routeways into sustainable employment.  We aim to ‘narrow the gap’ between the diverse communities in Calderdale.

We develop the potential of the district, through the development of its tourism and rural economies and by managing the Upper Calder Valley Rural Renaissance process. This involves:
