Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment

A Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) is a technical exercise undertaken by the Council to meet the requirements of Planning Policy Statement 3 (PPS3) Housing and following Practice Guidance issued by the Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG).

Sites included in the SHLAA do not have any official planning status and the document does not overwrite the statutory development plan nor form proposals for the allocation of land as part of the Local Development Framework (LDF).

A briefing note has been prepared which will help readers understand the context for preparing the SHLAA and its status.

2011 SHLAA Review

We are in the early stages of the 2011 SHLAA Review and hope to publish this by the end of the year. Should you wish to submit a site for consideration in the 2011 SHLAA review please do so by 31st July 2011. Site Submissions

The 2010 SHLAA

This is the first annual review of the SHLAA and involved the assessment of new sites and the re-assessment of existing sites. New sites included ones resulting from the Site Submissions exercise, where interested parties such as landowners and developers informed the Council of potential development sites for the Local Development Framework (LDF). Additional information received during the review year informed the re-assessment of some existing sites. The Assessment simply provides an unconstrained first look at the potential for housing in the district. Any sites that are considered for allocations at the plan making stages of the LDF will be subject to numerous considerations including competing uses, sustainability appraisal and statutory consultation. The SHLAA Review will commence in April each year.

The 2010 SHLAA consists of a Main Report and 14 Appendices.

Hard copies are available to view in all Calderdale libraries, Customer 1st Offices and Planning Reception and are also available for purchase from the Spatial Planning Department, Northgate House, Halifax.
