Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs)
These areas are designated by Natural England. They represent the best sites for wildlife habitats, geological features and landforms in the Country. Notification as an SSSI is primarily a legal mechanism to protect sites that are of particular conservation interest because of the wildlife they support, or because of the geological features that are found there.
There are five SSSIs within Calderdale:
- South Pennine Moors
- Withens Clough
- Crimsworth Dean
- Broadhead Clough
- Elland By-Pass Cutting
