Environmental health
The health, safety and well-being of everyone living and working in the district is aided by the work of Environmental Health Services, who strive to protect and improve the environment. This is achieved by a combination of education, advice and the regulation of the activities of others.
Animal welfare
Environmental Health Services have legal powers to deal with issues relating to the treatment and care of animals in zoos, circuses or riding schools and also administer the licensing for the movement of animals.
Environmental health policy
We aim to protect the environment through educating people and regulating activities. Enforcement powers help the council achieve its aim.
Food safety
Food businesses must register with the Council before they can operate and are inspected to ensure they are following safe procedures.
Pest control
The pest control service is provided for pests considered to be a risk to public health or food safety including rats, house mice, bed bugs, cockroaches, fleas and wasps.
Water supply testing
Most houses in Calderdale receive water from Yorkshire Water through one of its water supply zones. This public supply of water is also called 'treated', 'chlorinated', 'mains' and 'town' water. However some houses both inside and outside these zones are served by private supplies.
