Site management

Calderdale’s Countryside and Woodlands Team look after 84 sites throughout Calderdale. Some are just small pockets of land others some, such as Ogden Water are Local Nature Reserves (LNRs) and well known and well used. We have woodlands, moors, grassland and wetland all requiring different management to promote biodiversity and conservation and manage access.

Some of our larger sites have individual management plans detailing how we will be managing them over a given period of time (usually 5 years) this will include any major works are likely to occur, for example tree felling, as well as regular maintenance jobs. Plans will be reviewed on a regular basis. Work is carried out by Countryside Staff and Calderdale Countryside Volunteers and some sites have Friends groups or local community groups that make a large contribution to how the sites are run. For major planned work information will be displayed on site in advance to inform visitors what we will be doing and why.

If you have queries about management at any of our sites then please contact Mary Seaton 01422 393222, mary.seaton@calderdale.gov.uk
