School governors

Introduction

Governing bodies have a vital role to play in raising standards and it is essential that relevant advice, information and guidance is available to support that role.

Calderdale's Governor Support and Training Team aim to provide a level of support that will directly enhance the effective governance of Calderdale schools by:

• enabling the personal development of governors and the development of governing bodies;
• disseminating information on matters relating to school governance and school improvement;
• providing guidance and support which will encourage the empowerment of governors;
• enabling good practice to be disseminated throughout the authority;
• developing the partnership between the Authority, governors, headteachers and schools.

A number of different file formats have been used in the preparation of this information - html, pdf and Word 97. This is to aid accessibility for all users while taking into account the presentation of the information, for example graphs, tables and file size.
