Road safety education
Introduction
Calderdale road casualty statistics suggest the 11-16 age group have become a priority area for increases in education, training and publicity in an attempt to reduce the numbers of casualties in this group.
Recent research suggests that pupils aged between 12-15 years have pedestrian skills that are no more advanced than those of the average 11 year-old, but these pupils are being exposed to more complicated road environments as they make their way to school.
In an attempt to reduce child casualties in the 11-16 year age group Calderdale Road Safety are developing new lessons that staff will deliver to years 8 and 10. We are also offering all Senior Schools access to large mobile road safety displays and increasing the number of poster campaigns being sent into schools.
