April 2007: New Cooks' Newsletter

February 2007: Cook for success
A large group of school caterers from Calderdale attended the ‘Cook for Success’ Conference in Manchester during February half term. The conference was organised by the School Food Trust and aimed to:
- Champion the vital role school cooks play in providing fresh, nutritious food for children.
- Examine the early challenges of implementing the new school food standards.
- Celebrate the success of the growing number of school cooks who are taking the initiative to radically improve their meal provision.
December 2006: New guideline calls for urgent action to stem the rising tide of obesity in England and Wales
The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has issued the first ever national guideline addressing both the prevention and treatment of obesity in adults and children. The guideline contains wide-ranging recommendations, not just for the NHS, but also for schools and early years providers, local authorities, employers and town planners.
September 2006: New standards
Food-based standards for school meals were introduced by the Government.
