Learner Support Funds
Eligibility and assessment requirements
Calderdale College Learner Support Funds provide financial help to learners who may be facing difficulties with costs related to their study.
Who qualifies?
It is intended that the Support Funds help those who are in greatest need. This includes those who are:
- SEN learners for transport;
- 16-18 learners;
- learners without a full Level 2 qualification who claim an income-based benefit;
- Full time learners 19+ (studying a course of at least 12 guided learning hours per week) and part time 19+ learners (studying a course which is at least 60 guided learning hours in total) who claim an income-based benefit including income-based JSA, Income Based ESA, income support, housing benefit, council tax benefit (not 25% single occupier), pension credit (where guarantee credit is received), working tax credit, household income less than £15,050
Strict conditions apply to residence and immigration eligibility and further information can be sought from Student Services.
Assistance available
Assistance may be granted in respect of the following -
- Travel – for further details see Post-16 transport provision 2011-12.
Any learner still experiencing difficulty can apply for assistance towards the cost of the course.
Higher Education Learners must apply to the Student Loans Company for support with fees and Student Loans.
Learners may then access specific limited funds available within Calderdale College to assist with various costs. Students should contact Information, Advice and Guidance for further details. - Childcare

Equipment will be supported upon the receipt of a completed form signed by the personal tutor, for essential equipment only.
Learners may receive up to a maximum of £150 during the academic year. - Applications to Higher Education Expenses
Assistance towards the cost of travel to higher education interviews may be supported up to a maximum of £125 per learner per academic year upon production of travel receipts and a letter from the University inviting the learner for interview. - Other
Application may be made for assistance with other costs incurred during the learner’s time in college. This may include emergency payments or single payments of individual unforeseen situations.
Attendance
Attendance of all learners in receipt of Learner Support Funds will be regularly monitored. Learners will be expected to inform Student Services of any changes in their circumstances, and may be asked to provide additional evidence to support their application throughout the year.
Where attendance is not satisfactory, assistance may be withdrawn and repayment of some costs may be required. Information, Advice and Guidance staff will aim to support learners who may be encountering difficulties which affect attendance, financial assistance only being withdrawn after other supporting procedures have been pursued.
Discretion and appeals
The Manager of Information, Advice and Guidance and the Support Panel have the discretion to approve applications for assistance in special circumstances.
Learners who do not qualify are able to appeal to the Support Funds Appeal Panel who will consider applications for assistance on their individual merits.
Fraud
Learners who give the college false information, or do not give the college complete information may be prosecuted and the financial assistance withdrawn or repaid. For anymore advise please ask for
