How the service can help
By giving advice and clarifying the problem
- The vast majority of contacts with the service lead to immediate telephone advice, which significantly improves the situation for the child and referring agent.
By suggesting an appropriate referral
This could include:
- a local consultation group
- a training workshop or session
- a local centre of good practice
- a specialised service, for example Child and Mental Health Service or Speech and Language Therapy.
By recommending a meeting around the child
- with multi-agency participation
- to include whole school/family issues.
By undertaking work with the child/school/family
- to change the teaching/learning experiences
- to change parenting experiences
- to work with the child's self awareness.
By undertaking statutory work
- to inform the local authority of the exceptional Special Educational Needs of the child.
