Services
Internet and Computing
Calderdale Libraries have over 175 computers offering public access to the Internet, these are spread across all service points.
These computers have been provided through a lottery-funded government programme, the People's Network|
Use of People's Network PC's is free for the first hour. The second hour may be charged for, but is free to holders of Calderdale Passport to Leisure and to under 16s and over 60s.
For more details of how much it will cost, see Fees and charges.
At our libraries you can:
- browse the Internet with our fast broadband access
- obtain access to a number of subscription-only websites
- use email to keep in touch with friends and family
- make printouts for 10p per A4 sheet

WiFi
We normally offer WiFi access at the Central Library, Halifax, Hebden Bridge, King Cross and Todmorden Libraries. A new WiFi solution is currently being tested and we expect to offer a WiFi Internet service in these libraries later in 2012. Look out for more news here: Press releases.
People's Network
Calderdale Libraries takes part in the Enquire service from the People's Network|
.
Participating libraries offer a free, live question and answer service available 24 hours a day, every day. It works like instant messaging or chat room technology, allowing you to put questions to trained staff who can help you, just as they would if you were talking to them face-to-face or on the telephone.
IT Taster Sessions
Calderdale Libraries offer IT Taster sessions for those who want to learn more about the Internet, email and ‘getting online’. These sessions are mainly run by volunteers and are currently available at Todmorden, Hebden Bridge and Central Library, Halifax. We are planning to extend the sessions to more libraries in the near future.
We offer three one hour sessions covering the following subjects:
- PC Basics (especially mouse and keyboard skills)
- Introduction to the Internet
- Introduction to Email
