Oxford English Dictionary

The OED is widely acknowledged to be the most authoritative and comprehensive dictionary of English in the world. It can be used to find the meaning of a word, to check its pronunciation, or to find out its origin and how its use developed. 2.5 million quotations from sources as diverse as classic literature, periodicals, and pop songs illustrate how words have been used over the last 1500 years. Simple and advanced search facilities are available, and crossword solvers can track down words with missing letters or search on the basis of definitions.
