Children's centres

Sunshine Children's Centre

Sunshine Children's Centre is situated at Mount Pellon J and I School in the west central Halifax community and offers a welcoming environment in which families can access a range of services to meet their needs.

Family support and outreach services

At the centre we have access to a team of Family Support and Parent Link Workers who can offer help and advice on a one-to-one basis or in a group setting, dependent on individual needs.

Advice on home safety is available from the Family Support Team who can arrange a free home safety check and provide safety equipment at cost price.

Activities

The following is a timetable of activities currently offered at the Sunshine Children's Centre.

Monday	Antenatal Clinic	9.30 am - 12.30 pm	Run every fortnight. You will be cared for by the Wharfe Community Midwife Team. To book an appointment call the Children's Centre.
Monday	ESOL	10.00 am - 12.00 noon	Starting week commencing 26th September, call the centre for more information.
Monday	Parent and Toddler Group	1.00 pm - 3.00 pm	Children (and grown ups) of all ages welcome! A chance for children to show their creative side with messy arts and craft activities, exciting toys, which as well as being great fun, will help them to develop different skills and abilities. There’ll be singing and stories and lots of games. There will also be a healthy snack time, outside play and special events and guest speakers at your request!
Monday	Job Centre Plus	2.00 pm - 4.00 pm	Held on the first Monday of every month.
Monday	Stop Smoking Group	1.00 pm - 3.00 pm	Starting the 26th September,call the centre for more information.
Tuesday	Family Support drop-in	9.15 am to 11.15 am	Term time only. Come and speak to a Family Support Worker, for informal advice on issues such as parenting, personal issues, emotional support, housing, benefits and financial advice.
Tuesday	Special Stars	10.00 am to 12.00 noon	A group for parents who have children with disabilities or any additional needs from ages 0-21 years. Every fortnight.
Tuesday	ESOL	1.00 pm to 3.00 pm	Starting week commencing 26th September, call the centre for more information.
Wednesday	Numeracy	10.00 am to 12.00 noon	Starting 28th September for 10 weeks, call the centre for more information.
Wednesday	Eastern European ESOL	1.00 pm to 3.00 pm	Call the centre for more information.
Thursday	Music and Action Group	9.30 am to 11.30 am	Children (and grown ups) of all ages welcome! An hour of music including playing with musical instruments, song time and rhymes using puppets, making musical instruments and looking at different sounds and noises. Then there’s a chance to burn off all that energy and get fit with an hour of physical activities. Term time only.
Thursday	Family Support drop-in	9.15 am to 11.15 am	Drop-in session for informal advice on a variety of parenting issues offered by our Family Support Worker.
Thursday	Czech / Slovak drop-in with Citizen Advice Bureau	1.00 pm to 3.00 pm	Come and speak to the Citizens Advice Bureau and a Family Support Worker for advice on housing, benefits, training and financial advice.
Thursday	Czech / Slovak Parent and Toddler Group	1.00 pm to 4.00 pm	All welcome and for children of all ages. Term time only.
Friday	FRIENDS Group	10.30 am to 12.00 noon	Self referral / referral only.

Information services

The children's centre team works in partnership with other agencies such as Health, Education and Jobcentre Plus. There are new vacancies from Jobcentre Plus advertised daily in the centre. The centre aims to provide training courses flexible to parents' needs. (Some of these will be based at the centre, some in other localities within the area.) We have links with the Families' Information Service offering a range of advice and information to support parents with children and young people aged 0-20.
