New Road Children's Centre

Children share a book

New Road Children's Centre is situated alongside New Road Primary School in Sowerby Bridge.

The centre works in partnership with a variety of different public, private and voluntary agencies including local schools, childcare providers, health professionals, parent and toddlers groups to ensure all children have the best possible start in life.

New Road Children's Centre offers a wide variety of child and family support services. Call in for more details.

The following is a timetable of events currently offered at the centre:

MondayFriends Group9.30 am to 11.30 amParents / carers receive support and discuss any issues around anxiety, stress, depression and much more. Fun activities. Chill and chat with free refreshments. Crèche provided, £1.50 per child.
MondayToddler Talk2.00 pm to 4.00 pmDo you have concerns about your pre-school child’s speech, behaviour or development, and then come along to chat to a Speech and Language Therapist.
MondayAntenatal Clinic1.00 pm to 4.00 pmThe Wharfe Community Midwife Team will be caring for you. This clinic is only run when demand is high and by appointment only, to book please call the children's centre.
MondayPlay Services3.15 pm to 5.45 pmFree after school activities for 5 - 14 year olds, just drop into the children's centre.
TuesdayAntenatal Clinic9.00 am to 13.00 pmThe Wharfe Community Midwife Team will be caring for you. This clinic is only run when demand is high and by appointment only, to book please call the children's centre.
TuesdayMusic and Action9.15 am to 11.15 pmThis will be an action and music group. There will be obstacle courses, ball games and lots of physical activities. In addition there will be music shared, musical instruments, songs and rhymes. This group is designed for children aged 0-5 years and is free of charge. This is at St Paul’s Methodist Church, top of Tower Hill there is limited parking in the Church garage. This is term time only.
TuesdayStop Smoking Support1.00 pm to 4.00 pmDrop in to see our advisor between1-3pm. Please call the centre to make an appointment between 3-4pm.
WednesdayFamily Learning Help Your Child9.15 am to 11.15 amJoin us at New Road Children’s Centre for fun exploring the Maths and English your child is taught to help them with their learning. This course is designed for parents with children aged between 3 and 5 years and there will be a crèche provided. The course will run from the 9th of November for 6 weeks. There is a charge of £1.50 for the crèche per child for each session, please call the Centre to put your name on the waiting list or for more information.
WednesdayWell Baby Clinic/ Health Visitor Drop In1.30 pm to 3.30 pmA health visitor will be available to give advice and offer support on your family’s health. Join us for advice, family health concerns and baby weighing.
WednesdayFamily Stay and Play at St Peter's Church Hall1.30 pm to 3.00 pmA group for parents/ carers with children of mixed ages (under 5 years) with a creative activity and a chance to meet other families.
ThursdayCounselling9.00 am to 1.00 pmThis is a professional and confidential service offered to persons of 16 years of age or over who are expectant parents, have been recently bereaved or have children 13 years or under. Appointment only, to book Tel: 250081.
ThursdayYoung Parents Group1.00 pm to 3.00 pmThis group is run term time only for antenatal and postnatal parents. There will be a chance to chat with other parents where group discussions, visits from other professionals/agencies and weekly topics will be decided by the group. Free refreshments.
ThursdayFamily Drop In3.30 pm to 5.00 pmCome and meet Fiona, our Family Support Worker, for informal advice on issues such as: parenting, personal issues, emotional support, terrible twos, tantrums etc.
FridayBaby Group1.00 pm to 3.00 pmFor you and your little ones aged under 1. This is a chance to meet other parents and carers with babies of similar ages. There will be a varied programme to include lots of baby playtime, messy activities, rhymes and singing and weaning. Term time only.

Please let reception know if you would like information about any of the following courses at the children’s centre: Money Skills, Parenting course, Paediatric First Aid, Confidence Building, Weight Management.

Training Employment help advice

Do you require help and advice about training and employment, then call into the Children’s Centre and we will assist you with making an appointment with Nigel Broadbent the Jobcentre plus outreach advisor who will assist you with your search.

Details of what's on offer at the centre: early education and childcare for babies and children up to 5 years old, family support services, family health services, and parental involvement.
