Ward digest
Introduction
Background
This Digest is the fifth publication by Calderdale Council based on 2001 Census data. The previous ones were:
- Key Statistics Report
Presentation of the earliest released Census data, showing Calderdale, England and West Yorkshire figures, and how these compared to 1991. Also showing the 2001 figures for other West Yorkshire districts and all other neighbouring districts. - Standard Tables Report
Much more detailed tables on key topics, showing data for Calderdale only. - Ward Profile Report (pre 2004 ward areas)
A report containing a separate table for each of the 18 wards, with 1991 and Calderdale comparators. - Ward Profiles (2004 boundaries)
A pack of individual profiles of each ward, containing maps of the ward, Census data and some non-Census data (on income levels and benefit recipients). Comparators for Calderdale only.
Ward Profiles (2004 boundaries).
For further information on any of these publications, contact the Chief Executive’s Office using the details at the bottom of the page.
The Digest is intended to provide councillors, Council staff, the public, partner agencies, businesses and other users with key statistics on the main Census topics for the ward areas that were introduced in 2004.

The KeyWord Index on page 62 of the PDF will help users find the information they need.
Structure
The information is presented in four sections. The first three - Population, Households and Socio-economic Characteristics - comprise 21 tables, together with a set of key points and a number of charts. The tables cover the following areas:
- Calderdale, West Yorkshire and England (for England and West Yorkshire, most data is only presented as percentages, not total numbers)
- 17 Wards
- 6 'Greater Towns' - Brighouse, Elland, Halifax, Hebden Bridge, Sowerby Bridge, and Todmorden
The final section provides population and age structure details for over 100 small areas (all of which nest within the greater towns), and of the parishes. It also provides reference maps of the greater towns, the small sreas, and the parishes.
Further information
Census information is also available via
