Description of the sections

Population profile

There are four tables on the population of the area.

The first table gives the latest official government Mid-year Estimates by age-group and gender, giving numbers and percentages. Comparative UK percentages are included.

The second table summarises the ethnic groups of the district by broad age groups.

The third table gives official government Population Projections by age group for the district in 5 and 10 years time.

Business and employment

The Business and Employment Sections contains details of recent developments in Calderdale, details of grants and business opportunities, three tables on employment giving data by sector and by private and public employers.

Social trends

The Social Trends Section contains summary statistics on households; earnings and income; education and qualifications; social grade; health; and crime.

Included in the household statistics are official government projections for the type of household (married couple, co-habiting, single person, lone person and multi-person) in Calderdale over the next few years. There are also tables showing council tax banding; house prices by type of property; and a profile of the types of dwelling in the district. Comparative national percentages are included.

The first table on earnings shows recent data on gross weekly pay, the basic hourly rates and hours worked for the district, the region and the UK. The income data is presented as averages for the district with Great Britain comparators.

Under Education there are tables on average size of classes, school results, numbers going on to higher education, and levels of qualification in the district, the region and nationally.

The table on Social Grade gives the Social Grade of the population living in the 6 main areas of the district from the 2001 Census, compared with the Calderdale and National totals.

The Health data includes life expectancy, low birth weight, infant mortality and death.

Crime includes the number of offences per 1000 population over recent quarters in the district and nationally, also broken down by type of offence over the last year.
