Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA)

Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council has achieved a 4 star assessment - the highest available - for its overall service performance.  In addition it has been awarded a "Direction of Travel" assessment of "improving adequately" on the services it delivers.

These are the findings of the Audit Commission, the local government watchdog, as part of its Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA) of the Council.

Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA) assesses how well councils engage with and lead communities, deliver community priorities in partnership with others, and ensure improvement across a range of council activities. Councils are given an assessment score with 4 stars being the highest that a council can score and 1 star being the lowest. Calderdale scored 4 stars, indicating that the Council is performing well above requirements. Alongside the star ratings, the Audit Commission also publishes a "Direction of Travel" assessment, indicating the progress a council is making towards achieving improvement in the services it delivers to the public. Calderdale Council was assessed to be "improving adequately".

The Audit Commission commented that outcomes for children and young people are good and improving. Good performance in benefits, older people, culture and health has been maintained with improvement in housing and planning. Violent crime has reduced.  Community engagement has improved and an improved focus on customer service is emerging. Capacity has improved with progress on performance management, scrutiny and value for money.

The Council will continue to work with its partners to improve services and make Calderdale a clean, safe, attractive and thriving area for individuals and families to enjoy as residents, workers or visitors.
