Beacon status
Introduction
The Government's criteria for awarding beacon status are excellence within specific or cross-cutting service areas; clear vision and strategy; effective partnership working; and a learning culture and willingness to innovate.
Each year local authorities are invited to submit detailed applications for beacon status under a range of themes, to the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.
Beacon status is not just about recognising excellence. Successful applicants must also demonstrate a real determination to share their good practice and experience. The Improvement and Development Agency promotes the beacon scheme nationally.
IDeA Knowledge|Calderdale has Beacon Council status for:
- Local Health Strategies 2001-2002
- Transforming Secondary Education 2003-2004.
