Council backs £750,000 Scheme

Calderdale Council has agreed to invest £50,000 in a scheme to regenerate Mytholmroyd town centre. Members of the Councils Cabinet last night agreed to contribute towards the £750,000 regeneration project to create a new town square and enterprise hub at St Michael's Church Hall. The rest of the funding will come from the Church and Yorkshire Forward.

The proposals were drawn up as part of the Upper Calder Valley Renaissance Programme. Councillor David Kirton, portfolio holder for Regeneration and Development, said:

"Mytholmroyd lacks an identifiable town centre. This scheme will see part of Church Street and the car park next to the Church Hall transformed into a new square with a riverside seating area, a walkway with views over the river, raised planting beds and artwork. It will provide the people of Mytholmroyd with a high quality public space which they can use for community events like markets and fairs.
"The scheme meets one of the Council's key priorities - to improve the quality of the Calderdale environment."

To compliment the new square, St Michael's Parochial Church Council, are keen to develop an enterprise hub in the church hall. It will provide office facilities for fledgling businesses and not for profit organisations, with computers, broadband, phones, fax and printing facilities.
