Flooding

Introduction

Fast flowing riverCalderdale Highways holds stocks of sandbags at various locations across Calderdale to allow our contractors to respond to Environment Agency flood warnings as quickly as possible.

As we require unhindered access to sandbags to ensure a speedy response to at risk locations, sandbags are not made available direct to members of the public.

In heavy rain conditions we work closely with the Environment Agency to monitor and respond to highway drainage problems and provide sandbags to vulnerable premises identified by the following Environment Agency flood warning system:

Up to date information on the current status of a section of river through Calderdale can be found on the web site of the Environment Agency: Flooding|External link, or by ringing Floodline on 0845 988 1188.

Sandbags will not be deployed to areas unaffected by an Environment Agency flood warning. Whilst we understand public concern at times of heavy rainfall it is most important that all our resources are targeted to the areas of greatest risk to the benefit of the whole community.

To report flooding, highway drainage problems or blocked gullies please contact Highways .
