Local MPs

The UK public elects Members of Parliament (MPs) to represent their interests and concerns in the House of Commons. MPs consider and propose new laws, and can use their position to check the work of government.

There are 2 Parliamentary constituencies within Calderdale the Calder Valley County constituency and Halifax Borough constituency. Each constituency elects one member to Parliament. A Parliamentary election must be held once in every 5 years.

Your MEPs are your elected representatives in the European Union. Their job is to represent your interests and those of your city or region in Europe.

At European elections Calderdale falls within the Yorkshire and the Humber Region. Elections are held every 5 years and the Region elects 6 members to the European Parliament.
