Calderdale Compact
The Calderdale Compact is a local version of a national initiative designed to help overcome difficulties often experienced when working in partnership with different organisations and sectors.
Partnerships can bring many benefits such as the chance to learn from each other's experiences, benefit from everyone's skills, hear different voices and make sure we work in the most effective way, without duplicating each other or missing any gaps.
But they can also bring difficulties especially when partners come from completely different backgrounds and sectors. The Calderdale Compact provides a framework for partnership working and a consistent set of shared principles to help guide our strategic and operational working arrangements.
The Calderdale Compact:
- expresses our shared beliefs and principles
- recognises the different responsibilities of different sectors
- describes what we should expect from our partners in the public, voluntary, community and private sectors, and what they can expect from us
- sets standards of good practice in key areas of activity: funding, volunteering, consultation and engaging with community groups.
By signing up to the Compact, partners endorse the shared beliefs and principles, agree to fulfil their commitments as partners and commit to strive towards achieving best practice.
The Calderdale Compact has been drawn up by a Steering Group which involves:
- Voluntary Action Calderdale
- Calderdale Forward
- Calderdale MBC
- The Primary Care Trust
Approved by Calderdale Forward, Calderdale's local strategic partnership, it brings together all of the partnerships and key agencies in Calderdale, to make sure that everyone is working together in a strategic and focused way.
The Compact Steering Group has developed a toolkit, designed to help individual organisations sign up to the Compact and implement its principles for themselves.
