Here are some of the issues that residents have discussed at recent Ward Forums over the past year.

WardResidents’ issuesOur response
Illingworth and Mixenden
  • Dog fouling and littering at School Lane Illingworth – need litter bin at bus stop
  • Information about current ASBOs
  • Planning framework information from Council
  • Council’s SCG team arranged bin and additional street cleaning, which residents say has improved the site
  • Police give  regular updates at PACT meetings
  • Spatial Planning Manager presented at ward forum, and information on council owned sites to be brought to June Forum
Northowram and Shelf
  • Developing provision for young people
  • Planning framework, and consultation about land use
  • Speeding on local roads, and dangerous parking near schools
  • Volunteer group established and working with Young People’s Service to provide a weekly Friday meeting/club
  • Involvement in Planning Aid seminar about Government’s Neighbourhood Plans Initiative
  • Speed indicator advice deployment, and Police and wardens patrols/ advice /enforcement visits at school drop off times
Ovenden
  • Support for voluntary and community groups
  • Concerns about flytipping and littering
  • Concerns about the  closure of St Catherine’s Catholic High School
  • Community First grants promoted through ward forums (6 grants in April 2012) and regular community group updates and discussion
  • Environmental Health enforcement action at Tennyson Street, and Bulky Waste removal day on Grove Estate
  • Information from senior Council manager about the choices available to parents and carers. There are sufficient places for all pupils who wish, to transfer to Trinity Academy, and there will continue to be full curriculum offered at St Catherine’s until its closure.
Warley
  • Vandalism and asb at Pellon Rec
  • Supporting more voluntary and community group activity in Warley
  • Dog fouling in local parks, open spaces, and pavements 
  • Support for Action for Pellon Community Group, which has secured Lottery and other funding for improvements at the renamed Sandbeds Park
  • Community First panel of local residents have supported  award of 3 grants to date for community projects
  • Environmental health  action includes issuing fixed penalty notices, and together with other partners  including Junior Wardens , public campaigning and regular attendance in parks to deter dog fouling
