Discretionary rate relief

Consultation on changes to the Calderdale scheme

Discretionary Rate Relief (DRR) is help that charities and other not for profit organisations can receive so that they do not have to pay the full amount of national non-domestic (or business) rates.

Calderdale Council is committed to supporting voluntary and community organisations and recognises that the sector plays an important role in tackling the challenges facing our communities, and that by working with local voluntary organisations, charities and community groups, a real difference can be made for the people of Calderdale.

However, the changes to the way that rate relief is funded that were introduced by central government in April 2013 mean that the costs of the scheme to Calderdale have increased.

We are therefore taking the opportunity to reassess the way we award discretionary rate relief in Calderdale to help target support at organisations that need it most.

The Council is aiming for a revised scheme which:

The public consultation ran between Monday 2 September and Monday 2 December 2013. This has now closed.
