The Publication Scheme

Introduction

The Freedom of Information Act requires all public authorities, including Calderdale Council, to adopt and maintain a Publication Scheme. The aim of the Scheme is to let everyone know what information will be automatically or routinely published by the Council, and to let them know where they can get it from.

The Publication Scheme is set out around 7 categories of information:

  1. Who we are and what we do
  2. What we spend and how we spend it
  3. What our priorities are and how we are doing
  4. How we make decisions
  5. Our policies and procedures
  6. Lists and registers
  7. Services provided by the Council.

In each of the categories there is a link to find out more about the type of information, and further details about how to get copies of individual documents. Many can be viewed on our website, and where this is the case, direct links are given.

Also on the website, you can browse the different categories of information, or use the ‘search’ facility to look for something in particular. Each section will be updated by the Council as new information becomes available.

In putting our Publication Scheme together, we have focussed on the sorts of information people have most interest in and ask us for most often. The Council wants to be open and accountable, and sharing information through the Publication Scheme is one way we can demonstrate our commitment to this.

In addition to the Publication Scheme, the Council will continue to publish a wide range of information, and make it available to people in a variety of ways. For example, we will continue to make planning applications available for public inspection, and produce guides to our services and facilities.

A great deal of the information that we hold as a Council is personal and private to individuals. The Freedom of Information Act does not mean we will be making any of this public. The Data Protection Act legislation gives you a right to see the information we hold about you, but your private affairs and business with the Council are not the subject of the Publication Scheme.

If you are unhappy with our response to a query you have raised under the Freedom of Information Act, you can contact us directly, or you can complain to the Information Commissioner. Useful contact details are:

While most of our information is available for free, there may be occasions where we need to charge for things like photo-copying or printing. There are also some publications which may have a charge. We will let you know if any of these charges apply to the information you request.

If you have any suggestions about the Publication Scheme, contact the Information Management Co-ordinator at the address shown above.
