Recycling and household waste sites
Rules and regulations
Visitors to Household Waste Recycling Sites need to adhere to certain rules.
Pedestrians are not allowed to enter the sites – all access to the sites must be vehicular. There are also restrictions as to what vehicles are allowed to enter the sites.
Household Waste Recycling Sites (HWRS) give residents the ability to recycle and dispose of unwanted domestic and household waste free of charge. HWRS are not licensed to accept trade waste or waste arising from any commercial or business activity.
If you have a car, 4x4 or a people carrier then you can enter any HWRS and recycle / dispose any household waste.
But all vans, pick-up vehicles and large trailers require a permit to use the HWRS.
No permit, no entry!
No permit is required if you have:
- A car (4x4’s, people carriers) with or without a single axle trailer (up to 3m in length).
A recycling permit is required if you have:
- A van -
- Any vehicle without side rear windows
- Any “flatback” vehicle Inc 4x4 “pickups” with a “flatback” and or a “crew cab”
- Any “pickup” vehicle
- A vehicle with more than 2 axles
- Box or Luton style vehicle.
- A twin axle trailer up to 3m in length
- A hire van
- A car that is unable to fit under height barrier.
The following vehicles are not permitted under any circumstances:
- Trailers longer than 3m
- Trailers with more than two axles
- Any vehicle plated more than 3500 GVW
