Household waste
Introduction
The new waste and recycling collections have now been rolled out to all properties across Calderdale.
- Food waste and plastic bottles are collected every week.
- Your residual household waste is collected alternate weeks along with either paper and textiles or glass and tins.
All collections are on the same day each week except at Christmas and New Year when revised arrangements will be notified.

or call the Contact Centre 0845 245 7000 and they will send one out to you.
On your collection day
- Place your bin / boxes / sacks out for collection by 7am on the day of collection. They should be placed on the edge of your property nearest the point of collection.
- After collection, please take your bin in as soon as possible and store it securely on your property.
Please do not use your bin for soil, rubble or garden waste. These items can be taken to your nearest recycling and household waste site. Alternatively, you can hire a skip from a local skip hire company.

Assisted collections
We operate a waste assistance scheme if you cannot move your wheelie bin and there is no-one else in your household who can place it out for collection, a refuse collector will move your wheelie bin to and from an agreed location to the collection vehicle.
For further information see Waste assistance scheme.
Extra bin request
If you are recycling all that you can, but you are still producing more waste than will fit into your wheelie bin (or 5 sacks if you don't have a wheelie bin) we may be able to offer extra help.
If you have 6 or more people living in your house, or have 2 or more babies still in nappies, or any special circumstances (eg medical), you may be eligible to have an extra wheelie bin. Complete the request form and send to the address shown and we will get in touch.

Bradford and Calderdale Waste Partnership
Calderdale Council is working with Bradford Council for a long term alternative to landfill for the disposal of waste.
Householders in Calderdale produce around 90,000 tonnes of waste every year of which over 40% is recycled. This is a big percentage increase in recycling following the introduction of the new recycling service in April 2009. But we want to do even better and at the moment a lot of our waste ends up in landfill sites.
A 25 year arrangement is proposed, providing for the treatment of up to 50,000 tonnes of waste from Calderdale and approximately 200,000 tonnes per year from neighbouring Bradford Council. For further information visit Bradford and Calderdale Waste Partnership|![]()

We are currently looking at ways to improve the Rubbish, waste and recycling information on the Calderdale Council website.
Please spend a few minutes completing the online form: Rubbish, waste and recycling survey
Thank you.
