Description: Acorn Centre is a community resource in Todmorden, offering a Community Café and Internet Drop in. The Centre provides volunteering opportunities in the café, internet drop-in and the office. Training is available in IT, Basic English and Maths. All staff and volunteers work to support users of the Centre and will attempt to find the right training, help or volunteering opportunity for them.

Description: Age Concern Calderdale exists to promote the well-being of all older people in Calderdale, and to make later life a fulfilling and enjoyable experience. We offer a range of services, including day care and day activities, volunteer befriending, information and advice, and practical tasks such as a cleaning and shopping service, and energy and home safety advice. We are launching a home from hospital service. Our activities for older people include a learning and local history project, Sport in Past Times. Some of our services are funded by Social Services or Health, and are subject to referrals through those agencies, whilst others are open to all older people.

Description: CREW provide cardiac rehabilitation exercise classes for people with heart problems, who have achieved a defined level of fitness. We provide appropriately trained instructors for each class organised by CREW. We provide and facilitate regular local and countryside walks for and on behalf of members. We maintain contact with health and fitness professionals, to ensure the group keeps abreast with all new after care practises and current thinking.

Description: Community Transport Calderdale (CTC) is an independent charity operating throughout Calderdale, which includes operating a social car service in the Upper Valley. Since April 2005 CTC has also incorporated the Disability Minibus Association. Our core activity is the provision of transport to those people in Calderdale who cannot access other existing forms of transport for reasons of ill health, disability (mental or physical), geographical isolation, poverty or social exclusion. We currently have three minibuses and two people carriers, all of which are fully accessible.

Description: The Peacock Project is for all people with Hepatitis B and C and their friends and families. We always have a hot meal together (with Halal and vegetarian options). A Viral Hepatitis Nurse attends monthly. A specialist drug nurse (Lifeline) attends to provide support to drug users. We have an Urdu speaking worker at the group. A masseuse works with the group. We publish a newsletter twice a year, and we have an excellent up-to-date website.

Description: We are a counselling service for adults having relationship difficulties and young people from the age of 10 who are experiencing difficulties as a result of relationship issues in their family. Our services include: Relationship counselling, Separation counselling, Sex Therapy, Young people's counselling (age 10 - 25), Telephone Helpline and Telephone counselling by appointment. Our services are offered throughout Calderdale and Kirklees in different locations and times to offer flexibility for our clients. There is a charge for our service but we have funding to help support those on benefits who cannot afford the full cost, and funding to help all young people.

Description: SCARD supports all people who have been affected by road death and injury. We have a dedicated Helpline from 9am to 9pm every day. We have qualified counsellors who give their time freely. SCARD has qualified solicitors who give free initial independent advice and support. We work very closely with Road Safety Units, Police, Probation Service, Emergency Services, Hospitals, Youth Groups and Youth Offending Teams and we deliver our hard-hitting workshops to schools and others.

The first is the Pathways Group which supports adults aged 18+ who have become disabled through illness or accident and is funded through the Calderdale Primary Care Trust. Description: Turning Point offers counselling to anyone who seeks their help. A Christian-based organization, it is available to people of any or no religious persuasion. All the counsellors are professionally trained and operate in accordance with the standards of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. Our aim is to provide a caring, non-judgemental environment for those suffering emotionally from bereavement, relationship problems, depression and stress. The service is run by volunteers and no charge is made for counselling although clients are welcome to make donations towards the cost of running the organisation.
