Street cleansing
A cleaner Calderdale
The Safer Cleaner Greener Teams work throughout Calderdale on an area based capacity to provide essential frontline services which aim to keep streets cleaner and to maintain and improve parks, countryside and open spaces. Different areas within Calderdale can have different demands and priorities for these frontline services. Our Area Working service gives us the ability to respond to customer needs within each area. Our four areas are:
- Halifax Central (Park, Sowerby Bridge, Skircoat and Town Wards)
- Halifax North & East (Illingworth & Mixenden, Northowram & Shelf, Ovenden and Warley Wards)
- Lower Valley (Brighouse, Elland, Greetland & Stainland, Hipperholme & Lightcliffe and Rastrick)
- Upper Valley (Calder, Luddendenfoot, Ryburn, Todmorden).

The aim of the Safer Cleaner Greener service is to create multi-skilled teams who will take ownership of a wide range of issues in their locality, and who will work closely with local communities to set priorities and deliver solutions to improve the Borough's streets, parks and open spaces for the benefit of all.
The Area Managers and Teams link directly with the Council's Ward Forums and working partners including Pennine Housing 2000|
and West Yorkshire Police (West Yorkshire Police: Calderdale Neighbourhood Policing|
) to ensure that real and current local issues and problems can be dealt with.
Improving the cleanliness of Calderdale
We have been working to identify problem areas throughout the Borough that continue to suffer from high levels of litter and fly-tipping. Our service carries out regular litter inspections throughout Calderdale to monitor cleanliness and ensure that resources are put to work exactly where they are needed. The Safer Cleaner Greener Teams also work to prevent litter and fly-tipping re-occurring by planting up the areas and in some cases restricting access through the installation of barriers.
To improve cleanliness in Calderdale we also rely on information provided by the general public. This includes reporting fly-tipping instances, fly-posting, graffiti and dog fouling. This information helps to highlight problem areas and can help teams focus resources and prevention activities in specific locations.
How to report litter and fly-tipping
Help us to clean up your environment. Report fly-tipping on-line, by email to customer.first@calderdale.gov.uk or by phone on 0845 245 7000. Please report the following details:
- date, time, place
- description of people seen
- vehicle details including make, model, colour and registration
- type of waste.
Please remember that fly-tipping is an illegal activity. Never do anything that may threaten your safety and never attempt to sort through fly-tipped rubbish as it may be dangerous.
