Travelling to school
School travel plan
All Calderdale Schools have now developed a School Travel Plan (STP) to reduce the number of car journeys made to school and look at possible ways of improving the journey to and from school; but STPs are not just about transport. They are about improving the health and fitness of children, improving our environment, raising awareness, developing social skills and independence and broadening education. STPs demonstrate the school’s commitment to environmental and community concerns.
In summary, STPs aim
- to reduce traffic congestion and reduce pollution;
- to improve the school journey;
- to benefit our children’s health and fitness;
- to encourage children’s social skills and independence;
- to reduce parental time escorting older children;
- to promote safe walking, cycling and bus travel.
The STP is seen as a working document, which can be reviewed annually by schools.
Please contact Calderdale schools regarding their School Travel Plan.
