Road safety information
Introduction
People rarely think about road safety. It is only when there has been an accident or when someone is killed that people are interested. Yet day after day, on average, three people are killed or injured on the roads in Calderdale. This terrible toll goes on year after year.
Each accident causes pain, grief and suffering. Often people suffer from their injuries long after the incident. There is also the financial cost to the community. On average road injury accidents cost a staggering £69,000,000 in Calderdale alone. Clearly this is a major personal, social and financial problem and one that needs everybody's continual commitment and support to tackle.
