Oxford Dictionary of National Biography
The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography online offers fast access to 50,000 biographies, giving the full text, as available in the print copy. The online resource, however, has the additional advantage of being regularly updated.
Online, you can search simply by name or word, or you can choose the advanced search, offering options such as searching by place of birth, place of education or religious affiliation. You can browse alphabetically or by date and make use of external links to sites such as the National Register of Archives or National Portrait Gallery.
You can access the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography from any Calderdale library by following the link below. If you are a library member, you can also access it from home, using your Calderdale library card. Just follow the link and enter the word calderdale, followed by your library card number, in the 'Library Card Login' box.
