School classes in libraries

Teachers - why not take them to the library?!

Discover has a Menu of Activities for children aged 4-11 years to encourage children to become active readers and find fun and interaction in the world of stories and imagination.

• Discover . . . classes are available free to all Calderdale schools
• Discover More . . . classes and library, information searching and research skills are available to schools subscribing to the education offer. Many of these can be delivered in school or at the library.

Discover education

Schools subscribing to our Discover education offer have access to a comprehensive range of services covering libraries, museums and arts. The service is evolving continually in response to teachers' needs and changes in the education field. Schools interested in subscribing to the offer, or requiring further information, should ring the Schools' Library Service Co-ordinator on 01422 392620.

The Discover Information brochure outlines the subscribers' service for Calderdale schools; the Discover Teachers' Guide outlines in detail the museum education programmes which are available to all schools.

Services available include:

• project collections
• artefacts
• Art boxes (of original art work)
• Step into History boxes (original materials on a theme)
• literacy strategy packs
• education programmes involving role play
• art programmes
• storytelling in school
• teaching information literacy skills to pupils
• access to visiting authors
• book exhibitions
• priority booking for Calderdale Children's Book of the Year

. . . and much more.

We run education programmes at Museums and Galleries throughout Calderdale, for example:
