Advice Strategy

5. Client group based services

As the needs analysis indicates, there are a number of client groups within Calderdale who may not wish to, or indeed be able to, access what may be termed ‘mainstream’ provision. Therefore it is important that advice in Calderdale continues to be delivered by a variety of providers through a variety of means.

There are currently a number of agencies providing a service to client groups that are particularly vulnerable, excluded or disadvantaged. The three key client groups that are in need of additional support have been identified as being ethnic minority communities, people with disabilities and other isolated communities – such as those living in rural areas. Other groups that may require more tailored provision include older people, people with mental health problems and the gay and lesbian communities.

There are existing agencies in Calderdale which work with some of these client groups (for example, DART for people with disabilities), and other agencies which offer more tailored provision for people living in isolated areas (for example, outreach services provided by CAB and others or the generalist service offered by Customer First in Todmorden).
