Everyone different, everyone matters

Disability

The Disability Equality Scheme forms part of the wider Calderdale Equality and Diversity Scheme and will enable the Council to meet the Disability Equality Duty. The scheme sets out to redress discrimination faced by disabled people and will ensure that the Council adopts policies and practices that provide inclusion in all areas of service provision.

The Access Policy and Strategy has been developed in response to the Disability Discrimination Act 1995. It sets out the Council's aspirations for providing inclusive and accessible services to all and implements the key objectives required to meet the Council's ambition of providing inclusive and accessible services.

  DisabledGo provides detailed access information for disabled people and their families, and includes information on restaurants, shops, accommodation and public services in Calderdale.
• Directgov: Disabled people|
  The Disability section of the DirectGov website provides some very useful information to support and advise disabled people on all aspects of daily living.
• Equality and Human Rights Commission |
  The Equality and Human Rights Commission champions equality and human rights for all, working to eliminate discrimination, reduce inequality, protect human rights and to build good relations, ensuring that everyone has a fair chance to participate in society. They offer advice and guidance on any issue related to putting equality into practice.
• Disability Discrimination Act 1995|
  Disability Discrimination Act outlaws the discrimination of disabled people in employment, the provision of goods, facilities and services or the administration or management of premises.
• Office for Disability Issues|
  The Office for Disability Issues is the focal point within government to coordinate disability policy across all departments and take forward the Life Chances Report to ensure robust implementation of its recommendations.
• RADAR: The disability network|
  RADAR (Royal Association for Disability and Rehabilitation) seeks to remove barriers faced by disabled people by informing, advocating and empowering millions of disabled people in the United Kingdom.
