Equality and diversity policy

The Council's Equality and Diversity Policy provides a clear commitment to equality of opportunity and explains how this will be met.

It is a statement of the Council's intention to make sure that all members of Calderdale's communities have fair and equal access to Council services and employment opportunities, and receive equal treatment in the way the Council carries out its law enforcement and regulatory functions.

A summary of our Equality and Diversity Policy

Everybody who lives and works in Calderdale is different, but everyone matters. The Council thinks this is one of the reasons Calderdale is a great place.

As a Council, we want to make sure everyone can be a part of the community, and have a say in what happens.

When we provide Council services we will:

• Give our customers information about our services and how they can use them.
• Ask our customers what they think about our services, and listen carefully to what they say.
• Do our best to provide services that meet different needs.
• Work to make it easier to get in to our buildings.
• Treat our customers with dignity.

As an employer, we also recognise that everyone is different and everyone matters. We will:

• Respect all our staff as individuals, and be fair and open with them.
• Make sure people working for us feel valued and safe.
• Help our staff to understand the Council’s Equality and Diversity Policy in more detail.

All the Councillors, everyone who works for us, and the people we work with, all have an important part to play in making our Equality and Diversity Policy work.
