Dangerous dogs

The Dangerous Dogs Act 1991|External link was introduced in response to a number of incidents involving dogs attacking people.

The Act makes it an offence to own or keep certain types and breed of dog, and places restrictions on dogs which are a danger to the public.

In Calderdale, the Police are responsible for investigating complaints about the unlawful keeping of banned breeds of dog. Contact West Yorkshire Police|External link .

In situations where a stray dog is acting viciously the Dog Wardens will attempt to seize it so it no longer poses a threat to public safety.
